Controversy about actress Maggie Gyllenhaal breastfeeding in Public!

It’s a bit sad that there is such a controversy over breastfeeding in public.  Can’t an actress have any privacy? I can’t believe people object to breastfeeding in public when there are more explicit pics in movies and mags every day. Go figure? Mums I know are very discreet about it and you wouldn’t even know unless you were looking for it. I think there is still that sexual stigma attached to breastfeeding and this attitude is outdated.

What’s your experience of feeding in public?

Here’s the pics if you want to have a look and see what you think. http://www.celebslam.com/maggie-gyllenhaal-breast-feeding

I can’t believe this! Honestly more boob is shown in movies. I think it’s a lovely photo & great to see celebrities breastfeeding in public.

It’s insane really, no matter what some people struggle between it as a feeding device (for want of a better word) and a sexual tool (lol again for want of a better word)

Funnily enough I was in the UK in 2005 and I didnt know the law over there was that you are not legally allowed to breastfeed in public. I thought that it was the same as here.. so I just breastfed as neeeded as usual discreetly the same as I had always done here under my jacket or tshirt etc.
No one ever said anything but not long after we left a woman was actually cautioned by the police for breastfeeding in public. Very strange conservative ways over there.

I was also amazed to find out about the fact that breastfeeding in public was only legalised in the UK recently. I operate Nursingwear, an online boutique specialising in breastfeeding clothes. We are committed to supporting breastfeeding mums in their communities by helping to raise the public profile of breastfeeding and thereby helping to cultivate an environment in which Australian mums can feel confident breastfeeding in public.

We recently partnered with the Australian Breastfeeding Association, Mothers Direct and My Child Magazine in a campaign called Feel Free To Feed. The campaign aims to raise the public profile of breastfeeding and also to support a few breastfeeding initiatives. One is the ABA’s Breastfeeding Welcome Here program. Also their Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Accreditation. You can read more about the campaign on all our webites. It is still being uploaded to the home pge of the ABA, so in the meantime I will include our website address here if you might want to get information on how to join our campaign and stand a chance to win some great prizes!
